Who We Are
The Center for Positive Prevention Alternatives, Inc. (CPPA) has served the San Joaquin County community for more than thirty-five years. CPPA works with youth and adults to identify and use their individual strengths in making better decisions and building better lives for themselves and their communities. CPPA operates a variety of service programs, including the only emergency shelter for homeless youth in the county and the only transitional living program in a five county area.
CPPA's Mission
Strong communities are built by people who make good decisions for their own lives. CPPA helps youth and adults acquire the skills and personal characteristics they need to create positive environments for themselves, their families and their communities. CPPA, dedicated to preventing self-destructive and socially negative behaviors, respects the individuality and honors the strengths of every client.
Guided by its mission, CPPA works to achieve these goals:
- To give San Joaquin County's homeless, runaway and throwaway youth a safe haven and practical skills for re-entry into the life of the community.
- To insure that all of San Joaquin County's youth have access to the services and supports that they need, including shelter, sustenance, counseling, medical, educational and employment services.
- To reduce the debilitating effects of violence in the San Joaquin community by addressing the challenges of family violence, gang-related violence and anti-social behaviors.
- To offer opportunities for positive involvement in the life of the community.
