Programs and Services
Family & Youth Services offers a variety of programs to help San Joaquin County youth and families build better lives for themselves and their community. If you have questions about a particular program, go to the Contacts page to reach the appropriate program administrator.
Youth Services Bureau
The Youth Services Bureau (YSB) offers comprehensive services to runaway/homeless youth and their families. Its programs provide the only services in San Joaquin County designed specifically to meet the needs of homeless youth. The YSB includes these programs:
- The Safe House Emergency Shelter offers up to 21 days of shelter and support services for runaway, throwaway and homeless youth aged 12-17.
- The Opportunity House Transitional Living Program provides up to 21 months of shelter and supporting services to prepare runaway, throwaway and homeless youth for independent living. The program serves youth aged 18-20 and emancipated youth from 16 to 17 years old.
- The Youth Drop-In Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm to meet the needs of non-residential youth, including hot meals, access to laundry and shower facilities, case management and counseling.
- The Street Outreach Programs takes services to homeless youth throughout the county, offering food and water, warm blankets, crisis counseling and referral to services.
Family Services
In addition to working with the families of homeless youth, the agency operates these programs to support San Joaquin County families:
- The Family Crisis Line of San Joaquin County responds to children, youth and families in crisis 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 877.643.4750.
- The FOCUS Program (Families On Course Unite Successfully) brings intensive case management and wrap-around services to families reuniting with a child (or children) who have been placed in the foster care system. Working closely with the Child Protective Services social worker and the family, FOCUS case managers help parents provide a safe and secure environment for their children.
Adult Services
- The Batterers' Intervention Program offers an innovative approach to anger management and domestic violence through group counseling for court-referred adults with offenses related to domestic violence. This program is certified annually by the San Joaquin County Department of Probation to provide services to both men and women.
- The Domestic Violence and Anger Management Programs offer similar services. These programs accept self-referrals and referrals from the Human Services Agency, the Department of Probation and the courts. Anger Management offers services to juveniles as well as adults.
- The Alternative Service Volunteer Program offers an alternative to incarceration and/or high court fines for individuals by placing court-referred juveniles and adults in appropriate volunteer positions.
Counseling Services
All of Family & Youth Services' programs are supported by MFT or MFT-eligible counselors under the supervision of the Director of Youth & Clinical Services, a licensed MFT. Individual and family counseling is also available to qualified Medi-Cal clients and to participants in California's Victim Compensation Program.
